The Art of Science in Fashion and Textile Design

March 29th, 2008
Published in Careers

Science plays a major role in design development of fashion clothing and accessories, just a glimpse into the past will confirm enough to be true. It’s not a jumbled business of cloth and colours loosely thrown together, rather, a well organised industry driven by the sciences, from market research to weaving, printing, dyeing, pattern making, branding and labelling; scientific intervention supports artist’s continuum. Titanium Watches - Practical and Lightweight

March 29th, 2008
Published in Accessories

Renowned as the most comfortable watch metal around, titanium is lightweight, easy to care for, and is currently the hottest fashion choice in watches. Titanium Watches are favorites among watch connoisseurs and those who enjoy the finer things in life.

THERMAL SENSATIONS

Much the way that marble always feels cool, metals also have specific standing temperatures. When we put these metals against our skin, our thermal receptors respond to the new stimuli (the metal); cooler metal quickly draws heat from our warm skin, and the thermal receptors send a message to the brain reporting that the metal is cold. It is the sudden change in temperature - not the metal itself - that dictates thermal comfort.

TEMPERATURE CONDUCTIVITY

Although all metals conduct heat efficiently, stainless steel, aluminum, and gold conduct heat much more rapidly than titanium. This quick heat conduction creates a noticeable feeling of cold when the metal is touched to our skin. In very warm temperatures, such as in hot summer sunlight, the metal quickly absorbs the outside air temperature, and increases the temperature of the metal causing a watch to be extremely uncomfortable. In the same way that a spoon left inside a saucepan will quickly take on the temperature of the pot boiling on the stove, so too will many metals when in contact with a very warm environment.

Titanium watches do not experience such a dramatic heat transfer, due to the fact that titanium is a less efficient heat conductor. Ultimately, this makes for a far more comfortable watch: The wearer of a titanium watch does not feel sudden cold or extreme heat based on outside temperature; titanium retains its neutral temperature for much longer than most other metals. Choose the best brand before you buy Titanium watches.

HOT FASHION

Scientific information about heat transfer is all well and good, but perhaps the number one reason why so many people choose titanium watches is because of their beautiful look and continual, long-wearing comfort.

No matter why you think they’re cool, titanium watches are a hot fashion choice everyone can agree on.

10 Reasons Why Sandals Are Just Better Than Shoes Any Day

March 29th, 2008
Published in Footwear

1. Sandals are downright fashionable. With styles that cover practically every possible reason and season, sandals never go out of style. In fact, many popular designs and styles of sandals remain lasting fashion statements year after year.

2. With sandals, foot freedom reins. Just ask any college student why they love their flip-flops. Ask a beachgoer how come they’re not wearing tennis shoes. Sandals deliver an enticing balance of being almost barefoot but still having shoes on the feet. It’s a lifestyle really.

3. They deliver comfort like no other. There is just something great about the way sandals tend to break in and conform to the foot - almost like they’re an extension of the feet themselves. Shoes haven’t quite found a way to enter this territory yet.

4. Sandals have health benefits. Many podiatrists actually recommend the wearing of supportive sandals for the healthful benefits they provide for feet. Some sandals work in the same way as custom orthotics do to really help promote foot correct posture.

5. Forget about the fungus. It’s true; sandal wearers get the added foot health benefit of having cool, dry feet. This means there’s no place to harbor fungus, preventing a fungal foot infection before it can ever begin to take hold.

6. Sandals are usually more affordable. Okay, this one is for the practical-minded, but when it comes down to it, sandals are generally less costly than other types of shoes. It might have something to do with the fact that less material used equals less expense or it could just all be wishful thinking.

7. Try to beat the versatility of the sandal. Poolside, at the beach, backyard, or nowhere even close - just slip ‘em on and slip ‘em off. It’s hard to beat the versatility provided by the always fashionable footwear.

8. Promote balance with sandals. It is really no surprise that sandals have been chosen to help increase and promote balance. Practitioners of yoga have even adapted sandals with individual straps between each toe to encourage an increased sense of balance in the art of yoga.

9. They’re the original footwear from history. Sandals are time tested, having stood the test of time longer than any other form of footwear. The tennis shoe has been around for decades, the boot for centuries, but the sandal has been in use for millenniums. That must speak for something.

10. Sandals show expression. Sure, all kinds of shoes can be fashion-forward. However, no other form of footwear is as conducive to showing off a fun and funky sense of style and spirit like the sandal.

Accessories Are Just As Important As The Designer Prom Dress

March 29th, 2008
Published in Accessories

There’s no doubt that wearing a designer prom dress to Prom can really help a girl to stand out and looking radiantly beautiful. And, many girls will spend a very long time in choosing that perfect dress, but it’s just as important to choose the accessories that will be worn with the dress. So, if you haven’t already done so, take a little time to consider what you’ll need.

Even the most beautiful of designer prom dresses can be made to look even better with the judicious use of accessories. In fact, every type of prom gown, from a classic style like the Joli prom dress to the Hollywood look of a Jovani prom dress, can be enhanced with the right accessories.

The good news is you don’t have to spend much either; you’ve already spent enough on the designer prom dress. An accessory isn’t the main item - the gown is - so people don’t inspect the accessory. The right accessory shouldn’t even be that noticeable; it should highlight the dress but should almost be non-existent.

Here are some prom dress accessory tips to get you thinking.

If your dress is either strapless or has spaghetti straps, you’re neckline can look quite bear. It’s a great opportunity to wear a sparkling necklace with matching earrings. Remember, it doesn’t have to cost much; it just has to be in keeping with the style and embroidery of the corset. Pearls are another old favorite, especially with the more classic styles of gowns like the Joli prom dress.

A strapless gown just looks lovely when accompanied with by a shawl. Try wearing the shawl loosely around you arms so that your necklace and earrings remain on view.

How often do women get the opportunity to wear long gloves? A prom dress is usually sleeveless and allows women to wear beautiful satin gloves. You may not be able to buy an exactly matching shawl and gloves when you buy the designer prom dress, but be sure that the colors and patterns match the dress.

Choose your hosiery and prom shoes according to the prom gown length. With long skirts style isn’t paramount as no one is going to see them anyway, so put comfort first. For high-and-low prom dresses or short prom dresses, choose prom shoes and hose that will complement your legs and feet.

Open-toe prom shoes with flesh or light-colored hose look divine with slender legs. If your legs are heavy or large in the calves, and you want to de-emphasize your lower legs, choose closed-toe prom shoes with dark-colored hose.

Choosing the handbag can be the biggest challenge. Again, few dresses come with ready made matching bags, so you need to choose one that matches. It doesn’t have tobe the same color; the colors should be from the same part of the color wheel so they complement one another, or they must be from opposite ends to contrast one another. More importantly, try to find a handbag whose materials matches that of you gown.

Finding accessories can be a lot easier if you shop online for your designer prom dress as many retailer’s websites provide a comprehensive list of items that will accessorize the particular gown you’re interested in.

Many women are interested in finding the type of perfect swimwear that can suit their bodies in the proper manner in order to hide all the weak parts; for instance, the swimwear can be designed in order to suit the plus size bodies. These types of costumes are likely to make the woman look slimmer. Every woman who is a little overweight will be thus able to hide her weak points; the woman will look her best when wearing swimwear that is adapted to her type of body.

The overweight woman should avoid wearing costumes that are too small because these costumes are not likely to be suitable for her body; the bulges will be high lightened and the woman will feel too embarrassed to go for a swim. If one is looking to purchase designer swimwear and one is an overweight women, it is best to stay away from the small costumes; but one may choose swimwear that may hide bulges in order for the woman not to look even bigger than she is in reality.

The plus size costumes are to be preferred in these situations; these bigger costumes are not likely to be regarded as old fashioned ones. On the contrary, they are believed to be attractive enough in order for the overweight woman to look good when wearing these types of costumes. All the latest fashions that are likely to come along with these oversized costumes in order to make the overweight women feel comfortable with the way they look when wearing a bathing suit. When looking to purchase swimwear one should not have to regard the swimsuit as a menace any more because it can be adapted to almost every size and shape of human body.

But these oversized costumes may be difficult to find; visiting the local store may not be likely to end up with you buying the appropriate costume. Therefore, you will have to do a little research in order to find the store that can provide you with the bathing suit you are looking for. You will have to stay away from the tiny bikinis that are to be found on the current market; you may also choose to browse the internet in order to find the online stores that have available oversized bathing suits. The lack when it comes to the plus size is likely to be faced by many women who are interested in looking good in their bathing suits.

Therefore, you have to pay attention when selecting designer swimwear to the advice of the designer in order to find an appropriate bathing suit; time and patience are to be taken into account in order not to rush into buying a costume that is totally unfit for your body shape or size. The right suit is to be regarded as a very important item of your wardrobe; therefore, you will have to be patient enough in order to make a profitable and suitable investment when it comes to choosing this outfit.

There are many special stores that may provide you with these types of bathing suits; the over sized lines are already available at different online stores but you will have to be aware that finding unique items is not likely to happen because these lines are quite rare. For instance, a particular line will use the same color or model and you may not be satisfied by this aspect either. The oversized bathing suits are also likely to be pretty expensive and you may not afford them. Therefore, the online retailers are to be preferred when it comes to finding cheaper swimwear.

These retailers are not likely to work with the ordinary inventory; the retailer will not be interested in obtaining higher prices than usual because profits may come along much easier. Another advantage to be considered when buying from the online retailer is the fact that you will be able to take a closer look to the entire collection; this collection usually comes with a wide variety of colors and shapes thus making you able to choose the appropriate bathing suit that will fit your body shapes without showing your weaker points. You will be able to order every costume you are interested in buying.

The online stores may also come along with another profitable aspect because the collections will belong to a tested method of choosing designer swimwear; therefore, you may be able to take full advantage of the branded products without having to pay the huge amount of money that is likely to be asked in the regular stores that deal with bathing suits.

Lingerie Uncovered: A Short History

March 29th, 2008
Published in Lingerie

Lingerie– the word suggests lovely, provocative outfits. But lingerie came from lowly origins. The word “lingerie” is from the French linge, or linen referring to the material from which underwear was normally made. By the late 1800’s, lingerie had become a familiar term to depict underwear that had moved beyond sensible function to be used as an erotic accessory. At first lingerie was created for all sizes- including plus sizes.

Lingerie was supposed to only be used by women within the confines of a blissfully married life in the early years; with strict controls. One female journalist penned in 1902, “Lovely lingerie does not belong only to the fast. . . . dainty undergarments are not necessarily a sign of depravity.” As time passed, lingerie’s attractiveness to the general population increased along with decreasing adherence to Victorian morality, and the increasing social status of women. Lingerie was freedom from the practical and flagrantly straitlaced undergarments advocated by the Victorian era. For example, a doctor of that time period recommended wool as the perfect underwear for sanitation and wellbeing.

At first, lingerie was a sign of social status , handmade and afforded only by the very few. Of note were those fashioned by the English couturiere known as Lucile (Lady Duff-Gordon), who created camisoles, peignoirs, and petticoats using lace, chiffon, and crepe de chine, deliberately appealing to the sense of touch, and evoking a new eroticism for the twentieth-century woman. Although synthetic fibers such as rayon and nylon were developed and sold in the 1920s and 1930s as luxury fabrics through the use of the name “artificial silk” their development led to a democratization of lingerie.

WIKIPEDIA SAYS-Some major rayon fiber uses include apparel (e.g. blouses, dresses, jackets, lingerie, linings, scarves, suits, ties), furnishings (e.g. bedspreads, blankets, window treatments, upholstery, slipcovers), industrial uses (e.g. medical surgery products, non-woven products, tire cord), and other uses (e.g. yarn, feminine hygiene products).

The more body-conscious fashions of that decade also led to a new item of lingerie, the teddy, named after its inventor Theodore Baer, who combined a chemise with a short slip or attached knickers. The camisole, which originated from an ornamental waist-length article of clothing with a pleated front and shoulder straps that were worn over the corset for warmth and modesty, became a staple garment of lingerie, eventually becoming an item of outerwear by the 1970s. Similarly the slip, a standard piece of lingerie from the 1950s, was transformed to outerwear by a number of designers in the 1990s, most especially John Galliano, Dolce & Gabbana.

Pajamas, based on the loose pants worn in parts of Asia, entered women’s wardrobes in the late nineteenth century, but long nightdresses remained popular, even after women’s skirts shortened in the early twentieth century. By the1920s, straight-cut silk and rayon nightclothes in subtle colors such as orchid, teal and plum were popular, while the mid-century favored gowns with bosom-hugging bodices above sinuous skirts. Mixtures and superimpositions make lingerie an item of clothing in itself, so that hybrid costumes like chemise jackets and pants-skirts make up an unexpected wardrobe. During the twentieth century, alluring and luxurious lingerie grew ever more accessible and affordable.

Today there is a continuation of the lingerie revival started in the 1990s, attracting both male and female consumers. Lingerie’s cachet as an erotic, ardently visible component of a woman’s outfit has contributed to rising sales. It seems that showing off your lingerie has become very much become a fashion trend. Today redefined lingerie is an affordable luxury item with a strong appeal for the fashion-oriented consumer.

Hair Colour Tips For Your Hairstyle

March 29th, 2008
Published in Haircare

We all know that hair is very important for all of us as a part of our visual presentation and not only are the right cut and style important but the right color can greatly change the total appearance as well. Certain shades go better with certain skin tones, eye colors, and clothing. There are many ways to enhance looks with different hues, highlights, lowlights, and other techniques to add something to the hairstyle. So i made this very useful tips on how you can achieve optimum result in coloring your hair.

First of all, i will discussed the different types of hair coloring products that can be use.

1. Permanent Hair Color: This makes a permanent change in the pigment of the hair shaft. It does not wash out. It will fade in time, but cannot be simply removed to bring back your natural color. Just take note that this is a job which should be left to the Pros Only! And also it is expensive and is hard on the hair to varying degrees.

2. Single Process Color: Single process means that the color is lifted and deposited in one step.

3. Semi-Permanent: It can cover gray and go darker, but cannot lighten. It lasts varying lengths of time depending on the product. Suitable for amateur colorists.

4. Deposit Only Color: These are very user friendly and usually condition and color the hair in one step.

The very popular were glazes or translucent colors are among the easiest to start with to enhance your color.

Tips Before and After Coloring

1. Before coloring:

The first thing you will do is to wash your hair with a good kind of shampoo for you to remove pollutants of your hair. Do not use conditioner or shampoo/conditioner mixtures available in single bottle. Conditioner will interfere with the dye bonding to your hair. If your scalp is soft and sensitive or your hair damaged or dry, wait about a day after washing to bleach or use permanent dye.

2. While coloring:

Follow the mixing instructions exactly as given. Use protective gloves and an old towel, especially when you are new to hair coloring. To keep the dye off your skin, you could put creamy gel like Vaseline around your hairline and it’s better don’t get it in your hair though, or it will unnecessarily bother your hair coloring process.

3. After coloring:

To make your coloring to last longer, rinse your hair in lemon based solution immediately after dyeing. This raises the strength of the hair color. Another tip is to add two spoons of hair color to your regular conditioner after each shampoo. Leave it on three to five minutes and rinse it with warm water. This replenishes the color that was washed out.

Remember that changing the color of your hair is not a bad thing, just make sure to follow manufacturers instructions. Also the advice of some professional hairstylist will be a big help, so try to consult if you have time. Enjoy your new look!

Look Great In Plus Size Maternity Fashions

March 29th, 2008
Published in Clothing and Apparel

When you are pregnant and you have to purchase maternity garments to fit your new temporary form, you don’t have to abandon all your former shopping standards. You can still think about getting clothing with pretty necklines, shades that flatter your skin tone, and designs that highlight your most attractive features. On the other hand you do have to think about several considerations as you do your searching. Remember them and you can still remain your sensual and stylish self right up to the day when your baby is born.

Don’t let yourself get tempted into buying a bunch of baggy garments just because you need blouses, pants, and dresses which are comfortable with your new belly. They will only make you look formless, dowdy, and even fatter than you actually are. Instead, select blouses with some shape to them, maybe even an empire cut to show off your growing bosom. They will highlight something other than your big baby bulge and give you a more svelte yet curvaceous appearance.

With that said, the feature highlighted (your chest) won’t be very flattering if you’re wearing an unsupportive or tired old bra. Enough cannot be said on the importance of having the correct bra on underneath your clothes. One that is appropriately supportive, and properly fitted will be comfortable when worn, yet will keep your breasts uplifted and pointing in the proper direction. This can do wonders - absolute wonders! - for the overall look of the clothing you have chosen to wear. It may seem like an unnecessary expense, but a good quality, well fitted bra will last you through your entire pregnancy. And anything that makes you feel wonderfully attractive for even just a few months should be well worth the effort involved! Once you have chosen an uplifting and supportive undergarment, and a flattering style of shirt or top to go with it, it’s time to focus a little more attention on color. Sure, you want to choose colors that will work well with your skin tones and not wash you out, but, in addition to that, try to select colors that are bright and fun. You’re pregnant, it’s a wonderful time in your life, having followed the above rules, you’re well dressed, so you should wear colors that will attract attention when you walk into a room. Red is a particularly good fashion choice, as it is bold without being tacky, and classic without being trendy. A red shirt or dress will definitely get you noticed and admired. Find a hue that works for your skin tone, and if a red solid is a bit too dramatic for your tastes, then wear it in a print (red and white, or red and tan prints are particularly fun and tasteful without ending up too garish or loud).
